Summary: Toluene diisocyanate is a synthetic chemical used as an intermediate in the production of polyurethane. These have many uses such as concrete sealers, elastomers, coatings for wood, and in paints. It may exist as a colorless liquid that is insoluble in water. It has a density of 1.2244 g/mL at 20 C. Upon decomposition it will produce gaseous nitrogen oxides. It is classified by the EPA as a Hazardous Air Pollutant (HAPs). Toluene diisocyanate reacts and degrades rapidly when in contact with water.
