Summary: Dimethoate is an organophosphate used as an insecticide. It is soluble in water up to 25,000 mg/L at 25 C and has a density of 1.277 g/mL at 65 C. Upon decomposition it produces oxides of nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur. The compound has low Koc values ranging from 5.2 – 50 so it is expected to be highly mobile in soil and will not adsorb to suspended solids in water. Under alkaline conditions hydrolysis is an important method of degradation.
