IUPAC Name: (Z)-1,3-dichloropop-1-ene
Source: Used as an insecticide and soil fumigant.
Summary: Cis-1,3-dichloropropene is an isomer of 1,3-dichloropropene. It exists as a colorless liquid at room temperature and is soluble in water up to 2700 mg/L at 25 C. It has a density of 1.224 g/mL at 20 C. Upon decomposition it produces hydrogen chloride gas. Its primary use is as an insecticide on crops and soil (applied as a soil fumigant). It will exist in the atmosphere in the vapor-phase and has a half-life of 46 hours undergoing reactions with hydroxyl radicals. Koc values ranging from 20-42 indicate high mobility within soil. Volatilization from water and soil is expected to be a major method of degradation. Biodegradation in soil under aerobic and anaerobic conditions had half-lives of 12 and 2.4 days respectively. The hydrolysis half-life within water is 13.5 days.
