Summary: 2,4,5-Trichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4,5-T) is a chlorophenoxyacetic acid. It has been banned for use as a pesticide in the United States since the 1985. It also has applications as a defoliant. Upon heating to the boiling point the compound will decompose and produce gaseous hydrogen chloride and carbon monoxide which may be toxic to inhale. It is soluble in water up to 268 mg/L at 25 C and a density of 1.8 g/mL. It has a pKa value of 2.88 at 25 C.
