Summary: 1,2-dichlorobenzene is one of three dichlorobenzene isomers, with the chlorine atoms in ortho configuration. It is used in the production of medicines, dyes, other organic compounds, and has applications as a solvent. It is a colorless liquid at room temperature and has a solubility in water of 156 mg/L at 25 C. It has a density of 1.3059 g/mL at 20 C. It was formerly used as a pesticide. It has a half-life of 38 days in the vapor-phase in the atmosphere. Koc values ranging from 280-320 indicate moderate mobility within soil. Although fairly resistant to biodegradation, volatilization from soil and water is expected to be a major method of removal in water and soil. Moderate bioaccumulation in organisms is expected.
